We begin the workshop in the ancient city of Kathmandu where we’ll spend 2 days exploring the chaos and tranquility of the city. We then take a spectacular flight to the town of Lukla where our adventure truly begins. As we make our way high into the mountainous terrain of the Solu Khumbu, Everest, we climb west to the village of Gokyo and the five sacred lakes on the moraine beside the Ngozumpa Glacier where we will witness some of the highest mountains in the world. We’ll walk to the top of Gokyo Ri and witness a sunset like no other, with views of 4 of the world highest peaks, including Mt. Everest.

On April 25, 2015, a powerful earthquake struck Nepal, killing over 9,000 people, injuring 23,000 more and leaving 450,000 displaced. Entire villages were destroyed in mere moments. The international community responded with supplies and millions of dollars in relief.

The process of rebuilding Nepal is one that will go on for many years to come. Photographers Ariel Estulin and Louis Au will be hosting a fundraiser to help with this rebuilding effort.

They will be exhibiting photographs of Nepal – the people and the landscape. All funds* from print sales will go towards the ongoing relief effort.

They are teaming up with the Planeterra Foundation in helping to raise funds for Nepal. All proceeds will go to the Planeterra's Nepal Earthquake Relief.

We hope you can join us on Sept 19!

Travels in Nepal: Yaks, Monasteries and Mountains by Outdoor Photo Journey

Nepal is a land of high mountains, yaks, monasteries and mantras. Wedged between the Himalayan range to the north and the steamy jungles to the south, Nepal’s cultural landscape is as diverse as its physical one. Its people’s religious practices ranges from Indian-style Hinduism to Tibetan Buddhism. Nepal is also home to eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains.

In this talk, photographers Ariel Estulin and Louis Au will present their work from their recent trip to Nepal. Their journey begins in the chaotic city of Kathmandu and continues into the high Himalayas. You will embark on a photographic journey on the centuries-old stupas and temples and the spectacular vistas of the Himalayas.

Discover the unparalleled beauty of the Himalayas. This trek takes us to the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal, nestled below Mount Everest. Witness the highest mountains in the world and experience the culture of the Rai, Chhetri, and Sherpa people.

During our trek, daily photographic sessions will include group and one-on-one instruction, demonstrations and critiques of your work. Instead of formal lectures, our workshop will be focused on providing support in the field to develop your photographic technique, skill and voice.

Topics we will explore are: using your camera to its full potential, capturing unique landscapes and natural portraits of local life. Our small group size allows personalized attention, with the goal of developing your technique, composition, and storytelling skills. At different locations on the trek, we will focus on cultural or landscape photography.
