Adobe Lightroom has become the standard for post image processing. We've all used it but how many of us really know how to use it properly?

If you're tired of blindly pushing and pulling those adjustment sliders without really knowing what they do, this session for you.

We'll spend 3-hours using the DEVELOP MODULE deconstructing the tools used with many examples.

We'll show you how to develop your images using techniques such as:

• optimizing white balance to set the mood

• Colours adjustments

• Sharpness to make your images pop

• Targeted custom adjustments to bring out the essence of the image to align with your vision

By the end you'll have the confidence to process your images from RAW capture to the finished product that you can print or share online.

 Adobe Lightroom Develop Module

Adobe Lightroom Develop Module

Lightroom is developed by Adobe as a photo workflow solution aimed at professional photographers and serious amateurs. It is designed to be an all-in-one toolbox for managing, editing and presenting large volumes of digital images.

In this workshop, we will have an in-depth look at Lightroom's Develop Module tool set and concentrate on learning the robust editing tools for processing raw captures to make your images shine.

We will be using both the instructor and participants' raw captures for demonstration and comparison throughout the session. Participants will each bring one sample file fully processed and the instructor will process the same set of raw captures using various editing tools within the Develop Module for comparison. As a bonus, each participant will enjoy a take-home print of his or her processed file.

  • Smart Previews
  • Global Adjustments Overview
    • Colour Adjustments
    • Tonal Adjustments

Press Release: Adobe Photoshop CC + Lightroom

At Photoshop World on Wednesday, Adobe announced a special Creative Cloud offer for photographers. For $9.99 a month, you will be able to have both Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5. According to Adobe, this price will not change in the future.

In order to get this deal, you will need to sign up by December 31st, 2013 and you already own Photoshop CS3 or higher.

The new package includes:

  • Photoshop CC
  • Lightroom 5
  • 20 GB of online storage
  • Behance ProSite for portfolio hosting
  •  Access to the online video tutorial in CC

This does sound like a good deal if you rely on Photoshop and Lightroom for your work.

Adobe Lightroom 5

Now that the new version of Lightroom is out. Some of you will probably be asking yourselves this one question. Should I upgrade to version 5?  The answer to that question is of course, it depends

If you are a pro or a heavy user i.e. 3 hours plus daily Lightrooming, it is a no brainer. If you are coming from version 3 or earlier, it is also a very significant and worthwhile upgrade.  If you are running Lightroom 4 already and lusting after the new features is not your thing, then skip this one and wait for version 6.

So why don't we have a look at the cost of the upgrade? As long as you own a license of Lightroom (version 1x to 4x), the upgrade price for version 5 is $79.  If you spread it out to 12 months, the monthly cost of the upgrade is only $6.58. It costs a little more than your average fancy beverage at the local Starbuck. Not a bad investment at all if you look at it that way.

Let's check out the short list of Lightroom 5 new features.

  • Advanced Healing Brush
       visualize (dust) spots
irregular shapes clone or heal brush
  • Radial Gradient
  • Upright (perspective/straightening correction)
  • Smart Previews
  • Video Slideshows
  • New Full Screen Mode

If you shoot architecture often, the Upright perspective correction tool is a must have. The irregular shape healing/cloning brush tool will save you trips to Photoshop for more complex retouching. For these 2 tools alone, it is worth the cost of the upgrade in my opinion.

If you need more info on the new features on Lightroom 5, please visit Adobe Lightroom 5's Features page here. For tutorials on the new features, you can go to the AdobeTV series hosted by Julieanne Kost here.
