Religion in Nepal is an intricate mix of faiths, traditions, festivals and doctrines. Nepal is the world’s only Hindu nation with 87% of Nepalese officially declared Hindus. Buddhism is the second largest religion in this mountain kingdom and Buddhist influences permeate all layers of the society. Due to the close proximity to Tibet, Tibetan Buddhism is the most dominant and widely practiced form of buddhism in this tiny kingdom.

The intermingling of Hindu and Buddhist beliefs and practices is commonplace with Hindus worshipping at Buddhist temples and Buddhists worshipping at Hindu temples. This rich dual faith tradition binds both groups together and ensure social coherence.

The images in this exhibit connect the viewers to the daily religious objects and acts of worship that were captured from a recent 2013 trip to Nepal. (A few of the images from the gallery above will be on view in the exhibit.)

Caught this off a balcony when the rain rolled in yesterday. Love the painterly look right out of the phone camera.

About this series: Makros

In this series of photographs, Louis explores the world of texture with everyday natural organic objects via macrophotography.

The beautiful natural patterns and arrangements on ordinary fruits and vegetables are presented with a twist. The vegetables and fruits captured up close reveal intimate textures and intricate design only nature can offer.

The show is part of the CONTACT Photography Festival in the Junction and runs from May 1st - 30th, 2014.
