Preservation Hall is located on St. Peter street in the French Quarter, the very heart of New Orleans. The Hall was created as a sanctuary to protect and preserve the heritage of both New Orleans traditional and Dixieland style Jazz music. Preservation Hall opened its door in 1961 operating as a live music venue and a non-profit organization.
The intimate atmosphere in the hall provides an excellent way to appreciate this authentic New Orleans jazz art form. I attended the Living Legends: Maynard Chatters performance during my last night in town. I've never been to a jazz concert where I could sit on the floor three feet from the musicians in the front row. It was a real treat.
The musician in the photo directly above is the trumpet player plus vocalist Will Smith in the band. He did a beautiful rendition of 'It's a wonderful world' made famous by Louis Armstrong.
